megane starting,but no drive?

right going looking at a friends megane later,he has described the fault as

"it starts and revs up but the counter doesnt work and then dies..."

any ideas on this people? crank sensor perhaps?

going to have a good look later and see if i can see anything and try a few things

iirc its a 2003 1.4 16v modle

It will not start at all without TDC sensor working. Of course, it may work during starting and then stop working immediately for an unknown reason...

Check his battery first. In winter most faults are batteries. I mean the starter may cause an electrical glitch. if the battery is weak, which upsets the electronics and cuts off the engine.

hi got the car going yesterday,disconeected battery,re connected,everything back to normal1

but his EML light was on! he said its been on since the sercive light came on a few thousend miles ago......


anyway drove bout all yesterday and today fine....just had a call hes broken down again,lost all power and wont sart back up!

anymore ideas on what sensor it could be etc?

its a 52 1.4 16v with 61k.....but looks like its done 161k
