The Mégane II Owners' Club

My Gf has a 52 plate 1.6 Megane.

Been having starting problems with it for a while now.
Someimes she goes to start it.....it turns over but doesnt fire. Other times it would turn over, start then cut out straight away but fter a couple of attempts would be ok but lack power until it became warm.

I took it to a garage and had a diagnostic test......showed nothing!!
I replace the temperature sensor and seemed to start better but still messed about from time to time.

Last week she was on her way home from work and it just cut out!!
I managed to tow it home.....no power steering and no brakes......nightmare!!
Got a local garage to pick it up and have a look.....................They say they done a compression test on it and shows NO COMPRESSION!!.......Garage says CAMBELT BROKE POSS!!

I got it back home and ive took cambelt cover off and cambelt is still thr and intact!!

Any ideas???

The fact that the belt is there does not mean that the timing hasn't slipped. Check all the alignment marks and the belt tension. You did look at the timing belt and not the aux belt? If all is well there then it could be a fuel problem, or dephaser. Frankly it could be a lot of things, but I would be investigating those before taking the head off. The compression test, if carried out correctly is very puzzling.

Yes def checked both belts and both are intact.

Would the depasher stop the car from starting???

Going to check fuel pump tomorrow as not noticed the few second buzz when the ignition is turned on.

hi ive read ur post and i am having the same problem did u managed to find out what the problem is? id be very greateful if u got back to me an help me with the same problem.
