Tyres

Would size 205 45 17 be the same overall size as the original 16"wheels and tyres?

Cheers

Bung the numbers in here:

https://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

or else, work out the rolling circumference = (2.pi.((17*25.4)+45)/2) for the new wheels, then perform the same calculation for the originals. Divide one number by the other and x100. This will give you the percentage difference.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Hy there,

I think you mean:

rolling circumference = 2.pi.((17*25.4)/2+45) or rolling circumference = (2.pi.((17*25.4)+2*45)/2) :)

Cheers

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think I remember from the manual that the sizes that fits on my megane II is 205/50/17, 205/55/16 and 195/65/15. So the circumference should be slightly smaller on that tyre size than the original 16'' wheel.

Yeah - like, whatever!

Be easier to write it out on MathCad.... I think the gist of it is correct though!

What size should I have for 18" alloys, 205/45R18? Anyone know a decent tyre in that size at a good price?

In this size you are probably stuck with SP SPORT MAXX 205/45 ZR18 90W XL with rim protection.

If you want to corner better in both wet and dry, then downgrade to 205/50R17 and get Continental SportContact 3. They are also £30 cheaper, each.

Not sure if you agree that its a good price at £100 a corner.....

and not 100% sure it will fit, just 45 profile seems high for an 18" alloy........

my recomendation and the only tyres I would use in the summer, traction is greatly improved, as is handling, I mean just look at that tread pattern!!!

Same tyres in a 17" are only £55 a corner fitted! madness mate, maybe sell the 18s? save you £200 on tyres!

Lol, it's those 18" momo's!
Love them to much.. Cheepest tyres I found are £48 a corner and unthinkable there probably horrid! But I had 17"s before n they were always getting, for want of a better word, f**ked on pot holes I know the 18" will be the same but I care about them and so will drive slow!lol, or so the theory go's..

What do you recon to part worms, a mate sells them buys them in by the container load from Germany they generally have about 6mm tread and he could get me a set premium brand for £100 fitted, if I buy valves!lol

Those alloys are stunning. ok keep them!

if the part worn ones are premium brand and have around 6mm tread, it could be worth getting them as a temporary solution to cut costs untill you can afford to go all out in a few months.....

in which case its worth getting part worn winter wet / snow tyres fitted! its going to be a bad winter, VERY bad winter.... and you can quote me on that!

Think that I will stick with my original wheels untill bad weathers over, April maybe!lol buy yeah at least untill after Christmas, don't want the salt on the roads ruining them.. I think that my chrismas list will read tyre, tyre, tyre, tyre...
Generally are part worns ok tho, I have ppl saying don't go near them all the time, but the majority of the time the tyres are in the car they are part worns, so long as I change them at the limit I'm not really sure of the difference appart from that new I'd be buying hankook or other average quality tyre and part worn I'd be getting premium!

Brand new tyres can be dodgy, depends how long they been sat on the shelf / when they were manufactured.

The problem with part worns is that they have been previousl fitted and removed, so there will have been a bit of stretching going on there, I wouldnt buy them unless I was in desperate need, but even then, I wouldnt take them right down to the limit. You need to check for the slightest cracks in the tyre walls, like a spiders web effect the lightest markings in the tyre wall and I'd walk away tbh...

But im sure your mate wont rip you off, and will get you a decent set if you go for it.
