Window shuts TOO WELL and creaks!!

A variant on the 'Megane Electric Window' Saga!

My driver's window (it's had a fair bit of use over 3 years) has started creaking when it's fully closed.
It makes me think the glass is under stress - possibly the window closes too far,
or the motor closing the window doesn't stop at all!!

So: when driving with the window fully up, the window creaks when the car goes over any irregular surface; round a corner etc.

Anyone had this??

Any chance the window will decide to shatter at some inconvenient moment???

Let me have your thoughts, guys! :|

Both my Mégane and Vel Satis have done this for the past 2 years... nothing shattered yet!!

Mine does this too. Nothing has broken as yet - although it seems rather like it might at some stage. The creaking doesn't happen with my car at least not while I'm driving it. I would expect that the window regulator does stop otherwise you would probably find that it would burn out within a few minutes or blow a fuse. If this isn't happening, it's most likely safe.

Mine does this as well. It’s quite annoying especially when driving on bumpy roads.

A few months ago I had the driver’s side ( = left side :-) ) window regulator replaced. I got a slightly used one from a breakers yard. Since then it shuts too well just as you described and creaks.

It seems the motor closing the window stops later than needed and that creates tension in the glass, which in turn causes the creaking. Its part number is same as the old one, yet it has a different gearing because it goes up or down slower than the right side one.

I was afraid it will break so I asked my friend who did the replacement and he said it was OK, nothing to worry about.

Your window probably won’t shatter to pieces but will drive you nuts in the long run :D

Thanks for the input, guys!

SORTED!! :D

My brother suggested there might be something trapped in the groove that the window slides up into.

There wasn't: but there's a whole mess of rubbery bits that accept the glass as it slides up
(a result, no doubt of mods to cure the earlier model's 'integrated wash-basin in the door pockets'!!

I re-seated these as best as I could, and now NO CREAKING!!!

Have a go, and let me know!!

Thanks again!

I thought the window height could be adjusted using an access hole to get to a torx-like screw at the bottom of the door. Not done it yet myself, but on the list of jobs to do.

Sounds possible; but local Renault dealer didn't mention any such adjustment when I was jawing with them.

I suggest to programme it to not creak.

Try the following:
1. unplug and put back the door connector
2. lower the window and put something (a spacer made of folded paper) into the groove on the top of the window frame
3. carry out the regular calibration as described in my sticky message in this (OP) forum
4. remove the spacer.

Do not forget to calibrate both the upper and the lower positions of the window.
