1.5 dci engine cover advice

Postby darkmast3r » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:28 am

I had problems removing my plastic engine cover when checking a few engine parts. It was quite tight so i had to use a bit of force to remove it.
Now i have broken 2 of the lugs off where the rubber cup mounts sit on the cover itself. (the plastic seems quite weak I must say).

Will it make any difference if i leave the cover off or would I need to order a new one?

Clumsy!! Now you know where the lugs are located, should be easier next time!

Though I can't think of any reason why you should acutually have one in place - surely just cosmetic; plus Renault's 'subtle' method of saying: "keep your mitts off anything under this cover!"

I'd wait until you come across one at a breakers' yard, or on eBay, etc.

Thanks for the response, might just not bother with one tbh, if its just cosmetic there's no point, I didnt know if it was to help prevent heat from getting to the bonnet or not. My mk1 coupe hasnt got one so I 'l leave it off.

You will hear a bit more engine noise when driving. Apart from that, no real use.

Agreed - totally cosmetic - forget about it.

hi mate,i,d just leave it off.all i say is check your fusebox as its directly under the n/s wing which has no runners to direct the rainwater from it and the seal on top of it perishes and water gets in and causes havoc.cut a piece of old rubber car mat or put plastic bag on it to keep it dry.i had starting problems and thats what cause was. had to have new one.mines a1.5 dci 04 reg. and its a lovely car but that drove me nuts as no-one could find what was wrong as it would start ok when they tried it.besides drivers window went and had to have that repaired.ade.

I must have read this 3 times already today. I'm sorry that you had problems, but there are pipes on the Megane to drain water - the problem is usually that the drain hole gets blocked (poke from above with a length of wire). There is NOT AN ISSUE with water and a missing engine cover.
