Car Issues 1.9DCI

Postby Newcastlewatson » Tue Aug 24, 2010 5:54 pm

Hello i`m a very gutted megane owner as my car at the moment is diein and pretty sure its takin me down with it.

The problem:
My Car started blowing out blue smoke 2 week ago which indicates the engine or some part of it is buring OIL, which as the mechanics have pointed out is extreamly exspensive to repair i`ve been advised to get a second oppinion to confirm and then act on it.

The problems could either lie with the turbo charger or the engine. both which are exspensive but obviously turbo is a much easier thing to swollow then the engine.

Now am asking if anybody has any ideas maybe had simlar problem which could help indicate which one was at fault and also if you have any contacts or recomendations for getting hold of a new turbo for a 1.9 DCI 54 plate or where i can buy a complete engine and turbo.

Turbo problems are well documented but can sometimes be a red herring. I suggest you first try cleaning out the breather system which cured my problem: look here https://www.meganeownersclub.co.uk/forum ... =2&t=11440

Remove the oil filler cap with the engine running (with care) and see how much blow-by there is. Normally quite a bit. A lot may mean poor piston ring seals.

Your problem could simply be a faulty sensor or blocked fuel filter - particularly if the turbo is performing normally and not making black smoke or a loud sound. I assume you have cleaned the EGR valve?

Yes. But so can an old or blocked air filter. I suggest that you have a garage change the oil (Mobil 1 0W40) the filter, the air filter and have any stored or current ECU codes listed and explained to you.

Do this before anything else: it's cheap and could easily solve the problem.

How much oil is it using? I mention this as the link I provided before was when my car was using oil - it was inhaling it. An hour or two of maintenance and it was all good.
