hi im new here and just bought a 54 plate 1.4 dynamique with just 38k on off a lady from work... im used to driving big 4x4 diesels so this car feels gutless and flat to me but maybe i need tojust get used to it.
i noticed today after a 4 mile trip and sitting with the engine running at a car park it felt like the car was rocking, engine sounded normal and revs normal,no smoke, no knocks, no rattles, seemed to be running on all 4 cyl's..... just a rockin!
Any ideas?

Re: cars rocking on tickover
could be an engine mount, possibly the bottom one mine does the same!
Re: cars rocking on tickover
Mine does the same too - a 1.6 vvt though, not 1.4, though i'm sure they are similar layout
On mine, you can easily move the engine 2 inches back and forth, due to what seems to be play in the mount near the camshaft pulleys.
On close inspection of that mount, the rubber looks in good condition and not cracked etc.
The car feels like it has a permanent misfire, very unrefined (actually, right now, its 10 times worse as it has an actual misfire).
This car is the wifes, and has 40k on it. My car is a 1999 bmw e46 which has had a hard life and poor service history, yet with its 127k miles is much more solid and refined than the megane. The megane was much more expensive to purchase (on a 04 plate compared to 1999), and parts cost more too. Go figure.
(if you can guess, i'm not a fan of the megane - to me, its nothing more than white goods and I can't wait to get shot of it). She seems to like it though, so what can you do.

Re: cars rocking on tickover
I would suggest for feeling rough you check the ignition coils.
If the engine moves that much a mount is gone. I would get this fixed ASAP. As the next thing to go will be your CV joints a result of you engine movement during acceleration and breaking. (an extra £200 on top of the £60 mount.) But if the CV goes at high speed the shrapnel can wreck the whole engine.
