Card and Reader.

Postby Ewan » Sat May 22, 2010 11:05 pm

On placing my card into the slot and pressing the start button the words card not detected appear on the dash. I have also tried my spare card and the problem is still there. After 2 or 3 attempts the card then recognises and the car fires up. Can any of u Megane guru's help me as i don't want 2 get ripped of by the dealership again. :banghead

battery in the card?
it's entirely possible the batteries in both card die at the same time.

I thought that the transponder was a passive device and that the batteries operate the remote central locking only?

If so, the card reader maybe at fault. I await correction.

hey guys thanks for ur replies, i have ruled out the batteries. i think that there may be a faulty connector in both cards as i have dropped then a number of occasions. i have found that applying pressure all around the card before i put them in the reader slot generally works. the soldered connectors inside the card may be lose. haven't had the balls to attempt to open one of the careds to investigate yet. :idea

We had to get a new key card for our Scénic, so I took the liberty of cracking open the old one. It actually comes apart quite nicely and there was no damage. But just a circuit board inside, not sure how you would find what you're looking for!

Hy there,

I have a tutorial created to repair that. I will post it here soon with pictures and typical problems. That's the coil pins badly jointed, the solder cracks and doesnt make contact anymore, as result of that the card reader cant receive any data from the cards because they dont have power to send data.

The card without the battery doesnt lock or unlock your car but it can start the car by means of that coil, at a present it has pins cracked. If you can wait a few days i will post here the tutorial.

Like another poster, I found my keycard started working again following the replacement of the CAR battery. (My battery was over 5yrs old.)
