Another window regulator question

Can you replace the motor only on a regulator for a 1.9 dci ? A mechanic says i'll have to replace the whole mechanism as it is riveted on.The reason why i ask is i have seen on Ebay they can be sold separately .

yes the motor can be replaced separately it held onto the regulator by 3 screws, and held onto the door card by 2 torx .

Is this the part that usually plays up. Has anyone got away with just cleaning the contacts etc? Im selling my Megane with just 4 months ownership as its a money pit so i just need a fix to last long enough to get rid of it. Oh yes and the door keycard cencors gone and the door locks making a horrid sound! (Ps just parked my new Vectra on the drive)
