Fault codes - Anyone help
Hi all,
Ive just plugged my car into a diagnotsic machine, and its revealed the following codes :
P0010 - Generic Camshaft position actumator A ??
P0340 - Camshaft position sensor A ??
Any suggestions on what part I may need to change ?
The codes have been cleared but come back within a day or so, so i know its not a glitch !
I was thinking of changing the cam sensor as i ordered one for £40 but i'd rather not waste the money if someone knows what the fault part(s) may be ?
Would a camsensor give these fault codes or am i looking at something more serious / expensive ?
PLEASE HELP.... Thanks
Dave

Re: Fault codes - Anyone help
I would say cam sensor, but just because it comes up with the fault code doesnt mean the sensor is at fault just a signal from that circuit. So check all the wiring going to that sensor and the plug and connections, something as silly as moisture on the connection can give the appearance of a fault.I would suggest with the ignition off of course unplug and spray a small amount of wd 40 into the connector and reconnect check any associated connctions clear the codes and if it comes back on replace the camshaft sensor.let us know how you get on

Thats for the suggestion crackpotterpig.... I have already tried the WD40 trick... i removed the sensor, cleaned it thoroughly and it looks ok with no damage (Has a green internal band around it so maybe that suggests it the original)
I will try a new cam sensor and see what happens....
I was just surprised to have two fault codes..... but as i posted somewhere else on here, the car is sometimes rough and cuts out on start up when cold.....

Re: Fault codes - Anyone help
the P0340 wil be the cam sensor, but i think P0010 - Generic Camshaft position actumator A is more likely to be the solenoid for the VVT (top left of engine block) (opens/closes the dephaser on the camshaft).
one might be a false positive...so i'd try a new cam sensor first and see if it clears both codes.

There is a section dedicated to DF080, a.k.a P0010 in the manual in Links... Look for the files that end with 1.

Re: Fault codes - Anyone help
ive ordered a new camsensor so once it arrives I'll fit it and see if it works...
I have cleared the fault codes AGAIN so lets see how many miles before the engine light comes on and i will let you all know if its the same fault codes
Hopefully this may help someone else having similar issues :P

Right.... I have replaced the Cam sensor (2 minute job) and then checked the diagnostics and it came back the the same P3040 fault,
I have cleared this and lets see if / when the dreaded engine managment light comes back on ??
Funnily enough it still started very rough and cut out when cold..
Arrhhhh

It's P0340, isn't it? The Renalt code for it is DF112 and the manual also has a page on it. It tells you what connectors and what circuits between the connectors to check. Have you tried it?

Re: Fault codes - Anyone help
Arrrrr well it obviously wasnt the Cam sensor......
Both fault codes came back within 50 miles.........
Any suggestions please before i get rid of it..... (Yes its getting that annoying now where the option i can see is taking a large loss and selling it as it is)
Many thanks (Hoping) in advance

Re: Fault codes - Anyone help
it opens / closes the dephaser on the Camshaft.
if you look in the PDF that i & Alex have pointed you at and search for DF080. this is the renault specific code equivelant to P0010, it explains how you go about testing it.
the wiring / solenoid is located at drivers side of engine - right on top.
