I believe it to be 175Nm??? Anyone got any light on this!
Kind Regards!

It's 280Nm and you're supposed to used a new nut.

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
As above a new nut is required.
As for the T reading... just lock it up tight!

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
That is poor advice.
Torque it correctly.

I think we've all torqued up bolts by nipping them once in a while!
However, I wouldn't feck around with brakes or the cylinder head for example.

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
Got the front discs changed in utter ease today....these rears are just a nightmare.
A new nut seems like a good decision as they will probably not be off again in my lifetime of ownership, so i guess it makes good practise.
Might just take it to Renault and get them done.... I love to do things myself also and I am trying to keep costs down.

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
Nige,
Read the manual first:
https://www.uas-bg.com/meganii/eng/MR364MEGANE3.pdf
You will need the right tools for the job. The calliper support bolts and hub nuts are tight, so get a 40cm flexible handle and a 60+cm breaker bar and a torque wrench, all in 1/2'' square. All tools must be made of CR-V steel. Then, suddenly, any job will become quick and fun.
A quick calculation. Your right arm comfortably pulls about 40kg. The torque of the rear hubnut is 175Nm, which is 16kg*m. 16/40=0.4m -- this is the minimum length of the handle to torque the nut. For undoing it one needs to apply about 50% more, so the minimum length of the handle must be at least 60cm...
I guess you know that the pistons of the rear brakes are different from the front. You need to wind them in, i.e. rotate clockwise (on both sides of the car) while pushing in with a force of about 20kg. I use an open end combination spanner with a short bar put through the ring as a screwdriver. You will need to rotate the piston both ways before it starts going. Careful, use gloves and don't let the tool to slip off and damage the rubber seals.

Brilliant lateral thinking - though I doubt my arm would pull 40kg.
Maths rules!
As for replacing it, what would you suggest - a torque wrench with a scaffold pole?

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
Thank's guys for all your help on this.....i have to admit this seems like an absolute nightmare lol.
I really want to tackle this myself, but as i am only an amateur mechanic with limited tools, this information has made it seem more clear that its not just a simple bolt on bolt off...
Thanks for all your input folks, great for me and other people on here!

It's on the front. The rear hub nut is 175Nm.

Just checked again and it definately says rear hub nut - 280Nm. Might be a miss print if your definately sure.

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
No, just a regular 1/2'' torque wrench. It is about 50cm in length and the max torque is 210 Nm (in mine at least). I bought it for £15 some time ago.
My calculation is for pulling the tool with one hand, so the other could be used to hold something. With both hands a man pulls his own weight, i.e. 75-100kg for most of us, which is more than enough.

Re: Rear Disc Replacement...
You are right! Sorry for the abrupt reply.
The old manual (77 11 318 060 JUILLET 2002) lists 280Nm for both front and rear, and the new manual (77 11 318 062 MARCH 2003) lists 280Nm for the front and 175Nm for the rear hub nut.
The old manual is here:
