Rear Disc Replacement...

Managed to get these done... wasn't so bad as I thought...

In order to be safe I ordered myself some new hub nuts also so all is done and well...didn't bother torquing as my local dealer says just put them on until sufficiently tight. 300 Miles all still going good!...

The most complicated section was screwing back the rear piston's but I managed to get the tools.

Front's was like a breeze....

I apologize for waking up such an old thread but it's always better to keep the knowledge in one place.

I have replaced my rear discs, bearings, pads and hub nuts using TRW discs, Ruville bearings and TRW pads. All went well:

- bearing pressed the right way around, putting pressure on the outer ring only, then safety locked in place;
- hub nuts tightened at 175 nm using torque wrench.

I have an issue, though: both wheels have a bit of play, which drives me insane. Took the car to a mechanic friend and we can't figure out, for the love of God, why there's play when everything is done right. I suspect the nuts need to be tightened a bit more and i'd go for 240 nm, but i'm a tad bit afraid as the new manual does say 175 nm... Is it safe to tighten them more? Has anybody else had this issue?

The car's a 2007 Megane 2.2 Coupe.

It might be safe, but pointless. At 175Nm the inner race will sit very tightly. The play is probably in the bearings.

I also once installed cheap discs. There was no play, but the bearings became noisy very quickly - had to replace the discs again.

I will take the car to my pal's shop and determine whether the bearings are DOA/very poor quality, although i have bought them from a reputable shop together with the discs. I will post my findings here as soon as i have news.

I'm after the correct size of socket for the rear disc calliper retaining bolts. Ive read on other forums that its a male E13 torx socket. Ive also read that its a T50 or a T60. Can anyone be definite about it please.

I'd also like to verify the rear hub nut size, is it 30mm?

I've just done both my rear disks and pads took about an hour each side. The socket you need in my opinion for the caliper support bracket is something like an E16 star socket. It not a 16mm normal socket. The number doesn't bear a resemblance to the mm size. Hunted around for a while to find one that fit. Other just slipped off. Got mine from machine mart in a set of 6 sockets or so in 1/2 inch drive. Fit like a glove and removed the bolts no problem at all.

had a further look and I reckon its EPL14 or 16 . see machine mart code Product Code 040215153 . Im sure it was on of the middle sizes. being at work I cannot check for sure tho. but it was that set that worked for me.

Can you verify the hub nut size as 30mm?
