Problem with your Megane? Can't find an answer? Workshop manuals and technical notes are in here.

Am I being taken for a ride?

Postby adam6177 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:58 pm

Hi all

I've had the "check injection" message on my car so took it to Renault today for a diagnostic.

Supposedly there is nothing obvious wrong..........except that the rubber strip around side of the enging bay and the sound deadening material seems to have been eaten away by a little critter. The mechanic is now assuming they may have also eaten through some wiring....hence the display message.

However, the message disappears if you let it get warm then turn it off and then on again - doesn't sound like wiring to me!

Renault have asked me to book the car back in for a full wiring "strip back" - to me this sounds expensive!

So its a 54 plate and I've had it for 1 month (1.9 Dci Megane)....

I dont know what to do, contact the previous owner and see if the problem started with them? Am I going to get screwed with the warranty?

My first ever Renault ownership is going from bad to worse....

did they check for any fault codes stored in the computer?
could be as simple as needing one (or set of) new glow plugs

yep they checked - basically said my engine was ok, so they suspect its a chewed wire thats the cause.

glow plugs are fine.

sounds like glow plug problem (especially since it doesn't happen when car is warm) but you've ruled it out.

This is perplexing. Mice nesting? Not unheard of but still...

Got any pics of the damage?

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

I haven't, but will take some later. I just dont get why when the car is warm a quick switch off and on again clears the message.....doesn't sound like wiring to me!

indeed it has - would you expect the warranty to cover something like this?

yes - warranty applies - the car has to be "of merchantable quality". A garage can't just sell something they know is defective and try to get away with it.

Go back to the garage and ask them to fix it. If they don't write to them and give them a period in which to act. If they still don't - get it fixed by another garage and claim the cost back (including anything else you can think of - hire car costs etc) through the small claims court - be prepared to go this far as some companys cave in just before the hearing.
