225 Renaultsport turbo replacement

Postby brakedust » Tue Jan 26, 2010 2:09 am

Hi People...

Have a lovely 04 Megane 225 that I have had for about 2 months, and I think the turbo has gone already! As its rattling and I have lost all power and the ECU light is on............ So, my main question is whats best? Get it reconditioned or get a new one? And can I take the turbo out with the engine still fitted or is it a huge job to change it?

Cheers in advance

Have you had it diagnosed as the turbo by a mechanic?

Get the fault codes read as it could be your coil pack.

No its definitely a turbo problem as I can hear it rattling, had the AA have a look at it to confirm...

So can I get it out with the engine in?

You are the second person to ask this question and I am afraid I can't answer that question, but somebody else may be able to?

Unless you are good on the spanners then I suggest you take it to a turbo specialist to get it sorted out? if you need help try these guy's as they have been around for years and do seems to have a good rep. https://www.turbotechnics.com

You've only had it 2 months and it's gone already?

Was this a private purchase or did you buy it from a dealer?

No unfortunately I got it private, although I have put over 2000 miles on her in that time! Im a propulsion technician for the Airforce so im very handy with a spanner... Just need to know if there us enough access as I dont want to start a job that can't be finished, will maybe have to ring renault to see what there mechanics do!

Right... well I started taking it all apart today, its going to be a pig but I think it can be done, got most the pipes off, just need to remove the exhaust manifold tomorrow and it should come out (fingers crossed!!)
Renault quoted me well over £2000 pounds for the work :cry , I got a replacement turbo off a 58 plate with only 11000 miles for £240 so will work out a sh1t load cheaper if I can get it done on my own!
