1.9dci engine shake.

Postby comrade mackie » Tue Dec 22, 2009 10:02 pm

Hello,

My megane has a really bad engine shake it is more noticable on idle but continues sliglty through the revs, when idling it shakes the whole car!

I have checked the engine mounts and they are fine fuel economy and performance are fine.

Please can some body shed some light on this.

Injector?
Fuel pump?
EGR?

Thanks in advance

Search for glow plug testing / replacement and cleaning EGR and breather system.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Is the engine running smoothly or does it feel/sound like it's firing on 3 cylinders?

Don't dismiss the engine mounts. Renault's are renowned for problems in this area, I had similar problems on my Megane 1.5dCi and ended up with a new top and lower mount in order to cure the vibrations.

Hello, i agree with the last post, the engine mounts could be the problem. The O/S upper mount is the most likely culprit, regards Damian. :-)

the engine is running on all its clyinders.

Its wierd as when you rev there is a small grinding sensation almost like a bearing, maybe it could be an accumulation of a bearing on a pump/pulley and a dodgy mount.

I dont want to change the mounts as they seem solid.

I have ordered an ELM 327 to do a diag on the ecu.

Does the clutch pedal vibrate? Do you ever ride the clutch or balance on the clutch at uphill traffic lights? Was there a smell from it at any point?
It can be the DM (dual-mass) flywheel. The reports say that when these fail, a strange clunk appears on revving. I hope it is not the case...

There have been a couple of forum members who's DMF have failed on their 1.9dCi's but this was some time ago.

Do you notice a rattling noise at idle?

As a reader What Diesel magazine it's apparent that quite a few manufacturers are having problems with DMF's not just Renault.

Well well..............

I removed the drivers engine mount and stabaliser and it does have some excessive play, i have looked on gsf eurocarparts buypartsby and none of them list the engine mounts.

Ebay has some at around £60! :eek i could get group n mounts for my old e36 for that price!!!!

Can any one recommend a place where they sell cheap oe mounts.

whilst the mount is off i'm gonna do the water pump belt and tensioner. I assume there are no nasty surprises price wise there :|

It's a relief, well done. Make sure to adjust the new mount and tighten the bolt before loading it. The torque values are in the manual in our Links.

Hi,

Sorry to hijack the thread but, pedals vibrating and a rattle on idle, that sounds suspiciously familiar to my 1.5dci!

You say this is related to the dual mass flywheel? What are the dangers? Can it just go pop one day and take the rest of the box with it? I'm guessing it is a very expensive fix!?!

Mine has only done 23K as well. I thought the pedals were normal/dodgey engine mount and the rattle was the clutch release bearing giving up. :?

the flywheel is very expensive the part alone is £400-500 plus maybe 5 hours labour.

check everything else first, until i removed the mount it looked ok.
