Performance Air filter problem (ECU Fault???)

Postby Firestorm8 » Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:19 pm

hi all :)

got a megane 2.0 16v 54 reg petrol (LX54ZTT)

Ive tried installing a K&N air filter , which involves removing the ECU from the vehicle AND DISCONNECTION PLUGS.
ive fitted everything correctly on the car and put it all back , but when ive started the vehicle the service light has come on with a computer message saying 'check injection' the car has been limited to 2500 rpm and the max speed ive got out of it is 25-30mph. Im guessing that this is the so called 'Safe mode, which i recall was on the fifth gear 225 review.
Ive read a few forum posts and disconnected the battery for an hour and reconnected it, but this has still not solved the problem . Just wondered if anyone knew about what to do with this ? or whther or not im screwed and guna have to (try) and take the car to a garage ?

any help is very much appreciated =)

thanks Sam (northampton ,corby)

Is it an induction kit or panel filter?

Did you disconnect the battery before unplugging the ecu?

hmmmm :? Did you leave it a while between unplugging the battery (10 minutes or so) and unplugging the ecu? I know it takes some time for it to go into a sort of sleep mode.

Other than that do you have a code reader or know anyone who does?

hmmm I might of been thinking about when turning the engine off before, I'm confused now too! :?

Probably best to get it to a garage. This is the bad thing about modern electronic cars, you can get into a real electro' mess and have no way of knowing what's wrong.

If anyone knows better they will probably pipe up. Sorry I couldn't be more help!

nah thats ok, this is my own fault for wanting an induction kit fitted, its the first modification ive done to the car.
what sort of cost do you think I would be looking at ? and is it of any worth gettin a fault reader do you think ?
thanks alot for applying , much appreciated ,btw can any garage test it ? or does it have to be renault ?

thanks again

I think most garages would be able to read it, it's essential kit now like I say. You can buy basic code readers for about £30-£40 quid which could be quite useful for future use. If you took it to a garage I don't know how much they would ask, I would guess at not much more than about £20 but that is just a guess, I have never had it done before myself.

Best thing to do is ring your local Renault garage service department, explain what has happened and they will recommend what you should do from here.

Plus you never know, it could of snapped out of it's crawl home mode by morning! Stranger things have happened! :D
