SUN ROOF vibrating
Hi everyone,
Looking for some help, I bought a Megane in August this year 04 plate 1.9dci, been really impressed with the, other than the SUN ROOF!!!
My god its driving me mental!!! Really considering changing the car, I'm sure you may of heard or experienced that the sun roof vibrates none stop in the Megane when the engine is cold, which I could live with if it stopped after say 10mins, I could also live with it vibrating when going over bumps in the road, but its seems to vibrate endlessly!
It really sounds like its glass on metal and I would of thought there would be some sort of rubber seals around all the metal contact parts but there is nothing.
Is there a fix? Or anything anyone can recommend I should try.
Cheers
Alex

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
Mine started vibrating when it was in the tilt position (1st movement) and it was a very easy fix.
Because the sunroof slides on top of the roof, and not into it, there are two points of movement for the sunroof to be able to change direction.
Tilt the sunroof to the first position on the dial. You'll see a screw where the sunroof has just risen up, on either side of the car. On mine, these had become loose, and all that was needed was them to be tightened and WD40-ed for good measure. Check all other points of movement and also make sure that when the sunroof is closed, it sits flush to the roof.
Another point worth checking is the wind deflector. If it's not springing up when you open the sunroof, that could be the problem.

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
In addition to MéganeDynamique's comments, those same roof glass pivots/sliders have small plastic bushes on the base of them that slot into the roof runners. These bushes can wear out and/or seize onto their mounts. Either of these issues can cause the roof glass to rattle. They're easy to remove with a T20 Torx bit and might be worth checking out.

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
Sorry guys been a busy week only looked at the sun roof this morning, and its still vibrating
Screws are all tight. Everything looks and feels tight and nothing seems to be shaking.
The sun roof only vibrates when its closed as soon as it open the vibrating stops.
Going to search the internet for more information, really sick of it at the moment!!!

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
Why dont u just wedge it with a bit of card board in the mean time.... May take the worst of it away.

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
Mine (a 2004 1.5 dci) does exactly the same thing. I'm taking it back to the dealer at the end of next week as I've only had it a couple of weeks and the non stop rattle is seriously doing my head in (
I'll post an update on how I get on...

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
Mine's been into Renault this morning and they reckon the rear hinges need replacing so are going to get them in and do the work on Friday. I'll post another message once the works done with an update.

Re: SUN ROOF vibrating
No price as I only bought the car from them a few weeks ago so they are doing it at their expense. (thankfully). They told me it would take a while so I think it's the labour that will be the cost rather than the parts. I'll get an idea off them when it goes in on Friday.
