Hi,

Just got a 2003 Megane and the Automatic Wipers ( Rain Sensor ) and the intermittant wipers do not work but the slow and fast wipers do,

Should I be checking an fuse or relay 1st, if so where are there

Your car doesn't have manual intermittent wipers! Just auto+normal+fast. Did you try to change the sensitivity of the rainsensor by turn the dial on the wiperstalk? 1raindropsymbol: not so sensitive; 4 raindrops; max. sensistive.

I have try the 4 setting on the stalk and the wiper will go once only and then stop.
You have four positions on the stalk and the last two are normal and fast, so which position is the auto setting

Ok, the wipers sweep once when you turn the ring to confirm that the sensor has been made more sensitive.
You must have tested this when it was not raining.
Put the wiper stalk right to the top. Then move it down one position, this is the automatic position. The wipers should swipe once. Either do this when it is raining, or if not, get out and pour some water over the rain sensor (located at the top of the windscreen, behind the rear view mirror). The wipers should go. If they do, they are working fine!

When in the auto position, the wipers will not go unless it is raining. I've got into the habit of activating the rain sensor everytime I get in the car by moving the stalk up to zero, then to auto again. One swipe, then they'll start automatically if it rains.

It is the same sensor for the rain sensor and headlight, because some time the headlight will come in bright sun light

As far as I know it's the same sensor.

Has the windscreen ever been replaced? If done incorrectly then there can be problems.

I am not sure about that because I have only had the car for two weeks.

Also just got a quote to supply and fit the new sensor ( £150 )

wipers must be activated each time you switch on ignition. if you leave them in auto position they will not work until you push stalk to top position then move it to the next setting.

It doesn´t work that way on mine. If stalk is in ''auto'' position, wipers activate every time there's rain on the windscreen. You don't need to turn them on every time you start the car. Mine is PhII, btw.

My 2004 you need to reselect Auto wipers each time you start the car (even says so in the manual), so must be a facelift "improvement" that renault did ?

Same here for my 2005 (pre-facelift).
