we've a 55 1.6vvt sport tourer. Just having our third service at 48k. There was one at 12k (when we bought it off renault with renault to go), one at 30k and now this one at 48k.
Newbury City renault (part of Reading City renault) are claiming we should have the timing belt service - which is normally due at 5years or 72k miles. Apparently our car is a 'variation' which means it should happen at 4 years. I'm surprised cos surely the 1.6 is not a 'variation' - more the default model?
Now I've just phoned London City Renault (no relation) and they've looked at the same database, told me we don't need it yet and it should be 72k (or 5 years). We just need a normal service, and he seemed surprised we'd been told otherwise.
Any one got any thoughts? Are Newbury Renault trying to pull a fast one - or are London City wrong?

Petsco,
No comment on timing of the timing belt replacement - have 11/03 1.6 and that was done after 40 months following dephaser failure - otherwise it should have been 5 years. Don't forget that the work is a nice juicy job for a dealership with their inflated rates.

Re: Timing belt service
hi pestco, no it does not need doing yet as your car is a 55 plate and has only done 48k as you say, soI wouldnt get it doneyet, but also bear i nmind that when you do have it done the dephaser pulleys are a big problem as chevin says so when you do get it done have that changed aswell because if you don't and the dephaser fails you will have to put a new cambelt on when you do it (as the you need to take this off before replacing the dephaser, consider having the water pump done aswell as this can sometimes come off when a cambelt is done, then your engines nackered. hope this helps and i dont want to scare you the water pump doesnt always do this but sometimes if its weak it can. The cambelt service, dephaser pulley and waterpump from renault with parts and labour your looking around 500-600 quid, from a specialist about 400 and a backstreet garage maybe just cheaper, but beware some mechanicsdont even know what a dephaser pulley is lol, regards, mattie.

Re: Timing belt service
A 55 plate might already have the modified dephaser in (especially if its manufactured in 2006)...it's around that time when they sorted out the major issue with it and revised the part - part# of new one is 7701478505...not sure if this is visible without taking off though ?
