Window Fail!

Postby onlyme » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:17 pm

:-(
ok so here is the scenario....
14:30 get ready for work, washed, dressed
14:45 grab a quick lemon curd sandwich :)
14:50 jump in the car to begin 10 min gurney to work
14:53 grab fag box (20 benson silver)
14:54 Light Fag
14:55 reach for drivers side window button and press.....
14:55 press same button again, lots......
14:56 ..........window fail! wont come down
14:57 reach for ban roof instead with everything crossed its just one window.
14:57 BINGO! smoke out of roof instead........ :) happy!
14:59 happy feeling slowly withers away as i realize a broken window means spending pennies to fix... YAWN!

so, whats up with it? iv searched a bit and come across the regulator problem... BUT the window isnt dropping.... it just wont move at all.. last night wile at work i reset the car by dis connecting the battery and that didn't help. i did the lifting the button for ages thing and that didn't help, all THREE of the fuses needed for TWO windows (WTF RENAULT?) are fine!

to re cap, window will not move, its in closed possession and doesn't seem to be even trying to move, i cant here anything happening at all.....

any wise words anyone??

cheers

Does the drivers side switch operate the other electric windows ok? I've got a "tempremental" regulator on the drivers side but touch wood haven't had an issue for several months (watch it break now)!

The switch is the only thing I can think of if all the fueses are fine.

good luck.

Issues to Date:
Dephaser - replaced
Cam Sensor - replaced
Start up problems, goes to two cylinders unless reved to hell - annoying, but untraced cause.
Water Leak in Boot - removed, came back, removed, came back again. Given up

the pasanger window switch on drivers side oporates fine. unfortunatly i am working all today and going away till monday tomoro so it will be a good few days before i get to play with it. im hoping if i get the door card off and play with the regulator something i do will get it to work lol.

can it be the regulator though? the window wont drop. its stuck stiff, cant even force it down.

the fact it doesnt even sound like its trying sugests to me that it could be the button that is failing on me..... hmmmmmm

So can you operate the passenger window normally with the drivers side switch? Your last post is confusing - do you mean that you can open the drivers side window, or will the passenger window not move under any circumstances?

What year and model car is it?

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

I have had my window motor fail three times now....

It’s not broken it has just failed,

What you need to do is take of the door card and remove the motor housing.

Take a hair dryer and dry the life out of it, do the same with all connectors...

Reconnect and 9 times out of 10 will work fine...

If it does get some plastic and duck tape and seal the unit from the water in the door.

The problem won’t/shouldn't return well at least mine hasn't.

I would try this as Reno will charge you the guts of £150 for the pleasure.

Theres not much that can’t be self fixed on the meggy if you have the time....

Paddy

One other thing... I have a class room I’m in quite a lot at uni, that looks directly over the barrier ( You know where you put the ticket in and the arm lifts to let you out) It’s amazing to see the amount of Megane owners that have to drive past it slightly and open their door.... all because their window motor has packed in.

If only they used a hair dryer....

I have a 2007 Megane and the other day the passenger window failed to open . Contacted my Renault dealer who informed me there are problems with these window motors and replaced it for free as there is a recall. He said the warrenty is extended for 2 years on these motors. Hope this helps you out.

I had the same issue, the window regulator is a known issue on certain age cars, mine is a 55plte. Renault have increased the waranty on these from the standard 3 years by a further 1, but only as a "good will gesture". IE, they don't admit to the problem, and you will probably have to be "firm" with your dealer if outside the normal waranty as mine was

Any window can cause the issue not just the fronts. At it's worst the window winds itself down as you are walking away after clicking the deadlock :-( :-(

the passenger window is fine. both switches for this window are fine. its just simply the drivers side that is fudged...
