BIG urgent question guys!

Postby obriendean » Sat Aug 22, 2009 3:17 pm

Ok,

I bought a Megane last week and i had a problem with it starting, idling for 5 seconds or so then dying, the power also doesnt feel very strong. So i took it back to the dealer who promised to fix it, basically he said the computer cant pick it up and he didnt know what to do so he tried replacing the throttle body but it still stalls. :banghead

So heres the question, he said he doesnt know what it is, so he gave me two options. 1) Refund or 2) some money back.

After a little haggling he said he would knock off £600 but then would give no warranty, and basically give me sold as seeen.

What does everyone think?

P.s its a 52 plate, 35k miles, grey, 1.6 dynamique sport, 3 door

There's no manufacturer that makes troublefree cars....

But the Méganes (and Lagunas) from 2003 till 2005 are far more likeley to experience (mostly electrical) problems than other cars. Since 2005 most of the problems have been solved.

If I was you, I would take the money back. As others have said, it may cost a lot of money and a lot of trouble to put right!

i dont know why people still try the "sold as seen" routine, it has no basis in law

and i'd be wanting a refund, give cosumer direct a call

That should be 'Dephaser' which is the system on the camshaft pulley that varies the valve timing (thus VVT) according to revs. Take the refund as it makes no sense to keep a car that even might have this problem if there is an option to give it back without penalty.

what age focus you thinking of? Had a 02reg 3dr ST170 for nearly 3 years, no issues with it at all. Many good owners clubs for them too. Good luck whatever you get next
