Key Cards

Postby zoesdad » Fri Aug 21, 2009 2:29 am

I've been reading all the posts about key card problems - one of my cards also has stopped working!
Has anyone sucessfully managed to open one of these cards up, and effected a repair.

i believe they opened it carefully and resoldered the joints/wiring to their solder points. they came off or something.

Yes I'm expecting something simple like dry joints, but I was hoping for some info as to how they'd opened it up, and if they managed to glue it back together again.

It was me who had the key problems.

use a stanley knife on the joint round the front of the card key. You only have to go about 1mm deep.
Do this to about half down both sides of the cardkey (to about where the emergency key starts)
Prise open and hold open, you will see a copper coloured coil of wire with 3 solder joints onto the circuit boards. Its the two joints towards the front of the cards.
Check how secure and resolder simply by reheating with a soldering iron and a bit of pressure.

Good luck

This can be done with out the use of a knife. If you heat the glue with a relitvily hot hair dryer the two halfs will come apart.

I had a few cracks in the plastic of my key... it was falling apart.

So purchased a brand new key of ebay for £6.89 and transplanted the internal of mine to the fresh casing.

As i didnt have to cut anything and simply used heat the join is as new.

Thanks for that - unfortunately I'd already opened the card, all the way round, I desoldered the battery connections from the card to remove it. One of the coil connections had come adrift - which I resoldered, but I must have damaged it, and nothing works now.Anyway I'll know the next time.
