Thinking of doing cambelt and tensioners myself, Ive always done my own repairs before on other cars even cambelts. but never done a magane, Dont fancy paying out hundreds on a job i could do myself. As for the water pump is it ok to leave it if the bearings quiet or is it best to change it while the belts off.

i changed my pump anyway. best to get it changed while the cambelt is off than to have to take the cambelt off again to change it.

also in my opinion (other may disagree), you need to take into serious consideration whether or not to have the dephaser replaced at the same time. if this was to go, you'd be paying again for cambelt change. most garages only charge you the £118 for the part if it is done at the same time. if it is to fail, you'd end up paying again. it's you choice, preventative maintenance or corrective maintainance...
i had it done, but like i said, other people will have their opinions...your choice

dazza andywills is right about changing the dephaser pulley to the newer moddified type if your having a cambelt change, as i have known people who have had to have the dephaser done after replacing the cambelt, ouch start all over again, honest garages will mention about the dephaser to be replaced at the same time as you belt along with the water pump some garages wont and hope you will go back to them when it plays up,the dephaser pulley on cars between 2002(52)to 2005 and around the 50+k milage are most certainly going to fail. renault specialist done all mine for £358 all in that with genuine parts, that was with me supplying my own dephaser at a bargain price of £86 it was well worth it as the car now runs smooth and averaging 32-35mpg and no noisy start ups.

i had the cambelt done, and then the car started starting funny, with loud grinding and stalling.
i had the dephaser done, and the car started running funny, sounding like a tank.
my xbox broke.
i'm having a good week. all in all, i've spent about £675, and i have to spend another £80 to get the xbox ficed, because i have the 'wrong type of problem for the 3 year warranty'. it's balls.
