Problem with your Megane? Can't find an answer? Workshop manuals and technical notes are in here.

rear view mirror.

Postby Paddy » Thu Jul 09, 2009 11:28 am

I took off the rear view mirror for some unknown reason.

I can't get it on again for love nor money.

Does anyone have any hints?

Thanks

It appears there was some sliding involved in you removing it. The Haynes manual describes removal thus, "The interior mirror is very firmly attached . . . . . removed by sliding it towards the windscreen . . . . . . considerable effort may be required . . . . . . . . . . care should be taken not to damage the light/rain sensor." Since, as ever, "refitting is a reversal of removal" you presumably will have to position it near the screen and slide it back using considerable effort.

Bon chance

Considerable effort is about to be escalated to use of a hammer.

Its easy to get off... Not so considerable force used.

What I’m scared of is shattering the glass when using 'considerable force' never mind the rain sensor.

I take it, it's put together, THEN glued to the window when under construction.

Worst move yet I have made with the car.

NEVER TAKE YOUR MIRROR OFF!! THAT I WARN YOU.

Can you put up the whole extract from the manual if you get a chance.

Thanks

Mine fell off out of blue. They just glued it back in the workshop using two-component glue. It is originally glued with some thick rubber-like glue. A good old piece of advice: do not fix things which are not broken. And good luck.

Thats a different mirror.. i have the electrochrome one with rain/light sensors/red LED cabin lighting.

If it was only one of the simple ones it could just glue it back on.

Thanks anyway chum!

It did look as if it need fixed!!! In retrospect i guess not!

Mine also has the rain sensor, but the rain sensor is attached separately to the windscreen. There is this rail on mine too, but they couldn't fit it that way in the garage. They tried to glue the metal piece first, and then put the other part with the rail (as indicated in manual), but they failed. That's why they decided to put everything together and glue it on the windscreen as one part. I took some pics during the process.

Got it sorted, a spray of WD40 and she slid right on!

question...

Under the mirror surround. There are three cables one to the rain/light sensor.(black) One goes to the Electrochrome mirror (brown) but what is the gray connector for?
