Megane 1.6 not running well. Please help.

Postby Niksmegane » Thu Jun 18, 2009 9:25 am

Hi, Im hopeing someone can help me as the site wont let me start a thread, I have a 54 reg megane 1.6 vvt and it starts fine when its cold although it smells a bit rich, when it is driven about half a mile when i put the clutch in the engine cuts out and it takes some starting although it tries and i have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep it running once the engine is warm its ok. I am thinking of cleaning the throttle body out this weekend and wondered if anyone has any better ideas or advice.
Thanks
Stu

I am in the same boat and have been having this trouble for months, come rain or shine.

It only does this on 1/10 journeys.

On top of this after particular bad stalling fits my batery appears to drain itself over night? do you suffer from similar problems, i have spent a fair bit on diagnostics which has reaveled nothing!

Sometimes it will also struggle to idle at around 300-400 rpm and sound like its misfiring, if i turn it off and on again it will go back to normal, i am on the verge of getting rid but dont want to lose a packet of money on the heap of junk

Any help appreciated.

hi ,if you can get someone to start the car in the morning and you listen to the sound of the engine if it sounds a bit clattery and the smell of petrol is strong then it could be linked to the dephaser pulley which is very common problem on this vehicle, mine didn't show a fault on the diagnostic but the renault specialist knew straight away dephaser pulley problem.
