1.5dci Clutch pedal on floor!

I have lost the use of the clutch pedal on my 2005 1.5dci Meggy. Unable to change gear and just managed to get it home in 2nd gear. Parked it up just 20 minutes ago and noticed a pool of fluid under the gearbox. What has broke? Is it likely to be the slave cylinder or the pipe feeding it? I lost the pedal instantaneously. Hope someone can give me a quick reply before I go take a look in daylight. Is it fixable from above or below the car? Cheers in advance, Rob.

It is hard to say. Have a look in the manual before opening the bonnet:

Something in your story tells me that you will be looking for a reliable garage to do the job anyway...

Thanks for reply AlexB but the manual you sent the link for had nothing regarding the clutch and was in French. Dropped out of French in 3rd year :-) .

Have had a look under car and I can see, under the battery tray, a union in the hydraulic line. On this union is a circular plastic piece with metal internals. I appear to have lost the other half to this as it is drenched in hydraulic fluid and the metal parts are all bright ie never been exposed to the atmosphere until now. Been to Renault to have a look at their schematics for my car but was unable to identify what it once was that I've lost. Any ideas?

If I can find out what it is I will tackle the job myself , Rob.

The clutch hydraulics starts with p. 37A-22. Clutch is "embrayage". Bleeding its circuit is non-trivial, so i suggested to look at the pictures. French or not -- they are pictures.

Find the broken part in the drawings, print out the page and go to the parts department for a replacement. They will determine the right part number for your number plate.

Many thanks once again. I have a component in the line between master and slave cylinder which is not shown on any drawings. Since it's not listed in the manual you've shown me or the dealership one for that matter I'm going to remove and bridge it. I can't see what purpose it could ever have had other than being some sort of damper. Bleeding seems straight forward. Brake reservoir must be dual chambered, bleed nipple on slave, unspring the clip and withdraw pipe one notch, add fluid, pump pedal, sorted.

Good plan. Let us know how it goes.

In my car (1.9dci) access to the bleeder on the clutch bell is difficult and there is a warning in the manual regarding the danger of breaking it. I never touched that thing though.

busternlouise, many thanks. Bleeding sequence especially helpfull but now trying to find out what the "hydraulic stop" is as mentioned in the sequence. Haynes manual doesn't refer to it.

AlexB, removed the hydraulic line with the leaking part attached. Took the part apart and there is only a rubber diaphragm against a metal plate inside. This appears to have lost its seal against the plastic body it sits in thus causing the loss of fluid. Going to take it to Renault parts dept tomorrow for them to identify. Will keep you informed.

"hydraulic stop"
I think Section II is about bleeding the master cylinder. Basically, one needs to operate it in order to get rid of bubbles. It is done in a way to prevent the bubbles from getting into the slave cylinder...

This Section is missing in the manual for Laguna II, where you just connect the bleeding machine, open the bleeder, operate the machine and close the bleeder.

Got the new pipe from Renault Stealer, £42. It comes with the same part on it as I described earlier that no one knows about. Would love to know what its purpose is. Will fit it once the rains stops

Pipe fitted and system bled. An easy job but for the removal of the battery tray, Engine ECU and airbox. Working properly now and thanks to all concerned for info.

Hello, would you like to help me, and tell me where is positioned that pump because,
I have lost the use of the clutch pedal on my 1.9dci Megane 2 2004 year.
Is it near to gear box or is in gear box.
Is it easy to change it, or it is needed to remove the gear box, in order to replace the pump.
If someone have a picture where it is positioned or can mark it any picture, will help me very much.

Thank you very much
