Floppy gearstick

Suddenly the gearstick has gone loose. I assume there must be a spring attached in some way which has broken. Does anyone know how to fix?

My gearstick has gone the same. Heard it might be a gear selector (whats that} problem Help as my wife cant get into sixth gear.[quote][/quote]
