Engine will not start when Clutch depressed????

Mine starts with the car still in gear (clutch pressed). With the car in gear, pressing the brake doesn't start it (so the car doesn't nudge forward), instead you get a message to "Select Neutral". Interestingly though, mine does NOT display the "Steering Locked" message at all (steering locks fine). It seems they're all slightly different!

Just reading this thread make me slightly smile as I do wonder how we coped in the good ol days when we had none of this and 20/50 oil to deal with as well I am amzed we didnt destroy an engine every 3 month's thank god we sont have to think much now what with auto lights n wipers lane change and adaptive cruise gezze we donr even have to think about parking as most new cars will do that for you, auto hold takes care of hill starts and even auto braking so we dont have to think about the car in front all we have to do now is remember to get in it og yes and start it but pretty sure that will soon be taken care of for all thoae individuals who are finding it difficult to think of those things.

My Megane also will not let me start with the clutch pressed. Works fine if I press the brake.
However. If the car is in gear, and I try to start using brake, it briefly flashes up "engage neutral" and refuses to start.
So it knows if it's in gear or not, so no danger to starting system by using brake to start.

I've just had a look under the dash and found the broken wires that should have connected to the clutch pedal. Soldering iron at the weekend I think..
