starting problem, unsteady revs at 1100 please help

i have recently bought a renault megane (53 plate) i love this car but it has just started having a few problems, it wont start at all untill the car is warmed up just loses its revs completely onced started it i cant keep the revs steady at 1100 the needle just jumps off over the place, the garage said that i need a new cam-belt as it had not been changed, had a new one fitted but this didnt stop the problem, also has a problem with the steering senior which id getting fitted net week, could this be an electrical problem? im not sure please help

What engine is it?! If it's a 1.6VVT then most likely the dephaser pulley is kaput or the throttle body needs cleaning. Whatever garage recommended a cam-belt change FOR THAT FAULT wants reporting to trading standards. However, the belt should be changed at that age....

hi yes it is a 1.6, i am getting the dephazer pulley replaced on tuesday so hopefully this will fix the problem. if not i will try the other thing u said, also my battery is going dead all the time seems like something draining it? can u shed any light on this problem or could this problem connect to the problem with my steering senior which is also getting fixed next week, not having a very good time with this car at the moment would just like to find the problems out and get them fixed x
