Cam sensor and coils - Need some advice

Has trouble with the Migrane again the other day, it appeared as though one of the coils had failed (happened four times before so I thought I could tell the signs), lumpy idle and poor acceleration. Had the AA out and he tried a new coil in all of the ports but the problem remained. He advised that it was most likely the Cam Sensor and that I would need towing to a garage, Evan Halshaw Doncaster.
I have AA parts and labour cover so the repairs needed to be authorised by them so I ended up leaving it for the weekend. Helpfully, the AA agreed to fund the repair and I went home on the train contented. Got a phone call fr0m the garage on the Friday evening saying that the cam sensor had not sorted it out and they would either clean the throttle body or run another diagnostic.
The diagnostic has identified THREE failed coils and a remap of the injectors! The AA has said that they will fund this repair but that the cam sensor has been rescinded as it wasn't the cause of the breakdown!
I am fuming about this, however, my question is can the cam sensor failure lead to three coils failing all at once or have the sensor and the coils failed at the same time, or can the AA and Evans Halshaw find their back side with both hands.
Both the AA and EH look incompetent to me and I am the one left with a large bill to fund through no fault of my own.

Very much doubt it. Someone with a petrol engined car might give you a better answer. Sounds like they changed the coils for fun, before realising that the cam sensor was to blame...
