feeble attempt to start, now wont turn over

Postby slimpknz » Tue Feb 08, 2011 9:13 pm

Hello only me again,
Megane 1.5dci, 2006 plate, 45000 on the clock, full service history
Tried to start 2006 dci after it sitting for 2 hrs after work , feeble splutter to turn car over then some white whispy smoke was seen to come from under bonnet / smell of burnt electrics. Now when I try to start it, all lights function outer and on dash, though no glow plug light illuminted, still refuses to turn over only a single clunck sound which i think is coming from the starter motor solenoid on each attempt. Now I recently posted on here regarding a leak from the fuel return pipe which I had sorted , was told at the time that starter motor could need replacing due to this sort of leak causing it to fail prematurly, but never had it done. Do you think that the starter motor is the most likely culprit due to the absence of glow plug light on dash , or would that indicate something else. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What condition is the battery in? Check that first.
Silver 08 plate 5dr 1.5dci Dynamique 106 Tech Run (re-mapped)

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Ok had AA out, turns out starter motor was screwed, took to a local garage who replaced for £240. Didn't really show it was about to go either, not the cheapest but but not the worst, Arnold clark wanted £350. Thanks guys

your a good sport mate , i had to get it goin cause I need it for work , but hey my big speak was about the fuel leak coming from the return pipe, as soon as you smell a wiff of diesel you have to act , or its your starter guys, and that can b expensive.........just look at me
