54 Plate Megane 2 1.6 16v
After changing my Battery over the Christmas break I have had some electrical issues.
1. Headlights (front Only) stayed on when car locked. (Pulled out fuses to rectify at midnight on cold rainy night)
2. in the morning I started the car and re programmed radio and electric windows.
3. with lights switched off re fitted fuses and head lights (front only don't work. No power to light sockets bulbs are fine)
4. Read on here about PSU getting wet. and procedure for drying out, did this today and refitted PSU and all fuses. Car wont start. Doesn't turn over. Service light is on and the display keeps saying remove card and steering not locked. Lights still don't work (front dipped and front fogs).
Do I need to re programme the PSU or ECU?
I am starting to get annoyed at this problem now and dont know where to go except the scrap yard
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're not alone there. I have the same problems. Spent 3 days at it and eventually called the towtruck to take it to an auto-electrician. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow. He recons it's only an earth.
By the way is your electric radiator fan coming on when you put the card in and press start?

Re: Car wont Start
Found out the reason the electric fan is coming on all the time. It's something to do with the fact it is getting a reading of 270 C in order to turn it on. That's obviously a false reading and the highest reading it can give.
The electrician said he has tested both multiplex units, one in engine bay and one beside glovebox and both are fine. He has narrowed it down to the ECU which is bolted onto a plate at the back of the battery. He is going to test every single wire going into this unit to rule out for definate a fault with the wiring as the cost of a new ECU is a trip to the main dealer for the codes which only Renault know. They say it's for "security" reasons so people can't bypass the immobiliser.
You could be right, I live at the top of a hill right next to the Irish Sea. Maybe I should just give it a little push.

Re: Car wont Start
had to take car to the dealer, they were very helpful had to pay for diagnostic £70 they found that the Steering lock was blown so not allowing the card reader to communicate with the ECU. new steering lock fitted £540. Car now starts and runs beautifully. have now sold my megane and bought a Saab 9.3 A lot easier to work on.
