Can't remove rear wheel..

Postby UK.BladeRunner » Mon Dec 13, 2010 12:40 pm

Have got a flat tyre at the moment on my MkII Megane Dynamique and have removed all of the wheel locking nuts (x4) on the rear passenger side wheel

Wheel is about 1/2 an inch off the ground with the car being raised via it's jack...

Doing everything i can to get the wheel off but it's not budging!!! Serious head scratching here...!! :hm

Any suggestions please?

Many Thanks

Tap it with a rubber mallet.

My fiancaees sister had this problem on her golf, we pit the car back down with all the bolts still out, rolld forwards a foot or two n pulled on the handbrake, the wheel still moves as tho the car was rolling n the hub stays still, then jack the car back up n it's off easy peasy! ;-)
let me know how u get on...

Sounds like a plan that... Will give it a go tomorrow morning first thing!! :rock

Have tried the tapping with a rubber mallet etc.. Even had my entire weight behind pulling the darn thing off but it just won't budge!! :banghead I believe because the car is only just over 3 years old the wheels have never been removed before (original tyres) and thus may have rusted a bit to the Arm hub!!

Cheers, and will let you know how i get on!!

Put some copper grease on back of wheel when you put it back on. Stops the wheel sticking to the hub.

I can see this being a disaster! Leave the bolts in but loose otherwise there's a possibility of the wheel coming off and the car dropping to the ground.
I would spray some WD40 on the centre of the wheel and then, with the car securely supported, whack the rim from the back with a weighty copper/hide mallet while turning it-"tapping" will not do the job.Copper grease advice is excellent-might as well do the whole lot while your are at it.

I took the bolts out as didn't want to end up damaging them or the wheel, if the caronly moves in a straght line and tge ground is even there shouldn't be any problem.. There's no force pushing the wheel sideways, anyway I think with one rear wheel off on a megane you can take the jack down as the front end keeps the back quarter without the wheel up..

Yep, all done guys... Just rolled the car very slightly (in a straight line) ;) , hit the hand break and that slight force was all that was needed to free the wheel from the hub. Jacked it up and it came away easy.... :rock

Thanks Joe
