2004 Megane - manual , no gears

Postby 000KMCGP » Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:09 am

Hello
3 days ago my megane was fine i parked it for approx 3 hrs, then on restart found no gears. I checked the clutch and found some fluid on the stem of the clutch pedal , i sealed the leak with epoxy but still found no gears and the pedal very soft .I found first gear and drove it home after an hour , now the vehicle is immobile. the car starts when the the clutch is depressed, and i can find all gears while pressing the clutch only when the car is switched off , but once the vehicle is started there is no gears. Please help the car has not moved for 3 days now.

Hy there,

Your clutch cable has broken. There are 3 possibilities now: you can manage to repair it on your garage; you call a toll service to take your car too your usual garage; if your brave enough engage 2nd gear with the car turned of and then turn it on and go with it in 2nd gear to your garage.

You can easily check that problem, just ask a mate of yours to see in the gear box if the pedal is making the clutch release.

Cheers

tomalamix,
There is no clutch cable in these cars 8-)

000KMCGP,
I don't understand which part leaks the fluid. In any case, the leaking part should be replaced. Both the clutch and the brake use the same hydraulic fluid reservoir. Therefore, driving this car is unsafe.
It is quite obvious that one can't engage the gear without clutch when stationary. A known technique to drive a manual car with broken clutch is to start it in the first gear and then change the gears by equalising the revs. Most people can't do it these days.

Ah the days of double de-clutching... I once drove a 1959 bus with a manual box and NO synchromesh in any gear. That was an interesting experience!

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Its hydralic? Didnt know that lool. My mistake :-) Well, in that case i dont know the system philosophy but im sure there is lack of pressure because you dont have fluid in the system or some internal actuator has gone...

cheers
