Front suspension creak when low speeds.

Postby ablyde » Tue Nov 02, 2010 1:32 pm

I bought my megane back in 2008 - as i drove off i noticed a creak coming from the front suspension (i know this as when braking and accelerating at low speeds is when it could be heard)

i took the car to a local garage under warranty and the mechanic said it was nothing at all, just greased up a bearing under the bonnet and job was a gooden!

does this ring any bells to anyone? i have done 20,000 miles since i have had the bearing greased and the bearing has obviously dried up as it has started making the same noise again, the mechanic did say it will need regreasing again in the future. Does anyone know where this bearing is or how i can regrease it myself as the mechanic said it was easy enough to do.

Thanks! :)

Unless your mechanic knows something I don't (almost certainly!), it's not that easy. I'm planning on rectifying the same problem on mine. To do this I will have to remove the roadwheel, the wiper blades, the trim under the windscreen, a big bolt on the hub, the anti-roll bar link, and the top mount. Then using spring compressors, take the top off the mount, clean it, grease it, and put it all back together. Under the mount is a gasket that can be replaced if worn. The spring needs to be correctly seated when replaced. With practise it could be done in 30 minutes - or with a spray of WD40 (don't get any on the brake discs).

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
