Postby rob01792 » Fri Oct 01, 2010 4:32 pm

i have 04 plate 1.6 16vvt i push the button it turns over but takes bout 5/6 sec to start same if its hot or cold once its started it fine
i changed the tdc sensor and loom changed the cam sensor but still the same the car only has 29k on the clock
its been on renault computer nothing flags up it going in n/week for software update as advised by a renault workshop manager he does not think its the dephaser as there is no noise on start

What is the battery state/charge with the engine off? Is the alternator and regulation voltage correct (13.8V - 14) with the engine running?

Try checking basics like cleaning the throttle body before getting into anything too technical. Make sure you disconnect the battery so that it reinitialises the throttle body after you have cleaned it. Has it been serviced recently? Have a look at your spark plugs and air filter. Then move on to the ignition coils and battery.

starting to get pricey now at first the main dealer said cos it not have renault branded plugs. then they done a software update now they say its a timing issue prob the dephaser but they still cant say 100% that will cure the problem .
as anyone an idea what it could could be

Someone really should answer this for you. I don't know myself, but the dephaser symptoms have been well documented. All I can remember about that (being a diesel owner) is that it will probably sound like a bag of spanners when you start it. If not, it maybe something else.

Take it that u done all then normal stuff like plugs, leads, cleaned throttle?. and it does sound like a bag of spanners( got mine dephaser done year ago and sometimes still sound like a bag of spanners!!) then you got £600+ try the dephaser, if you got the money trade it in, because the dephaser will break down again

makes NO noise on start up and it is a bit flat when on bypass/motorway and fuel consumption seems high

Does disconnecting the dephaser control valve solenoid change anything (apart from causing a warning light on the dash)? There can be a blockage somewhere in the oil route to the dephaser.

check spark plugs see what colour they are. mine was running ok but flat in places, then started after month or so started missing. noticed white burnt marks on coil.
