Knocking from Front
Have checked out forum & seen many answers to knocking from front of motor (not sure what side),but judging by these answers this would be m.o.t failure, yet i've put up with this knocking for 2 years now & the car has passed 2 m.o.t's.Does anyone know of a knocking where it wouldn't be an m.o.t failure ?

Re: Knocking from Front
if you have knocking and it's noticeable then something's no right. Could be lots of things.worn ball joints, bushes on shock absorbers, bushes and anti roll or even a broken coil spring....
Jack up one front side at a time, with wheels on full lock that gives you best view of rear of hub. With the wheel just off the ground use a spade to lever the wheel in various directions, only a cm or so no more, you don't want to drop he car off the jack. Check for movement on ball joints and shock bushes. You may need to have a second set of eyes or hands as one person will have to lever whilst the other watches.
The springs are harder to check. But my wife's dynamic had a broken spring at 40K miles..
Hope that helps.
If you're unsure have a mechanic check it out. If you've noticed it then you know somethings not right...

Re: Knocking from Front
When I first got my car, it was only doing this sound when the car was at a stand still and I would turn my steering wheel to come out of a parking space.
Also make a bit of noise when the road is uneven.
Tonight driving, it started doing a repeated knocking noise when steering towards left only, could this be the steering rack?

Yeah I've got the same problem, tighten the bolts and replaced the wish bone, did the job for about a 2 miles till it started again, now it need a cv joint which comes complete with the drive shaft. more money

Re: Knocking from Front
If its the drive-shaft or cv joint, try Driveshafts Ltd on eBay, the manufacture new drive-shafts and cv joints for most cars inc megane. and they charge a quarter of the price of a new one from Renault

Job done...hopefully.
Knocking appears to have stopped.
Inexpensive & easy enough to do.
Thanks for all interest.
