injector programming

Postby stu sim » Sun Aug 29, 2010 9:48 pm

ive recently went through a complete engine rebuild including one new injector and the other 3 professionaly restored !!! however although my car will idle no bother... it goes into limp home mode relatively soon after driving off... ive heard different stories about injectors needing programed back into the ECU and stories about them not needing programed !!! can anyone put me straight on this matter once and for all and does anyone know how much Renault will charge for this !!!!!!!! THANKS :banghead :banghead :banghead

Hy there,

I know that sometimes even if you change the all injectors of the car (diesel engine) and try to start the car the car starts and runs okay without any problems, with the old injectors programmed on the ECU, this im sure because ive seen it.

On other cases the car doesn't even start if you dont code the new injectors or it starts but it stays idle even if you press the throttle all the way down, its like you didn't press the throttle. On this cases you have to code the assembled injectors on the ECU.

In your case you dont get any error on the dash?

Well, the car runs but i think that the problem is not the injectors...why did you change and serviced the injectors? It was because of that problem?

because my engine went bang ! found out that a piston melted so have had the engine re bored skimed you name it ! even down to the rebuild kit for the turbo but still its not going right !!! it idles no bother although sounds louder than it used to ! also revs a lot slower than normal as well and when driving it there is no power and holding it at about 2000 rpm in 2nd its surging forward and resting for second then surging again also chucking out black smoke when this is happening

Did you clean the EGR valve after that incident? The turbo shouldnt be the problem, for now at least, because you're saying that the car idles roughly. I assume that you substituted the injector where the piston melted. Maybe in your case its really necessary to code the injector, but it would be the first i know that works but still needs to be coded...the other 3 injectors were placed exactly on the same place you toke them out?

cheers

no the injections were not numbered and put back in the same order because the specialists said there was no need but now im not so sure im scared to take it into Renault because i took it to them when the engine went pop and they took £327 just for investigating...and didnt even get as far as taking the head off !! so i need all the help i can get from you guys !!! so do you think i should get them programmed , ive heard that the car should not even start if they did need programmed also the EGR valve has been out and checked

If the car revs up and starts it shouldn't be necessary, at least from my experience i never saw one that needed programming as far as the car starts up and revs up. Yours are doing both so the problem shouldnt be on the injectors program. EGR is clean...and you have a rough idle and too slow reving up with no warning coming on the dash. The turbo youve said is fine, but lets no go that way because the turbo doesnt make a rough idle. Timing belt is my best guess...its correctly installed, everything were on the right spot (close is not good enough, must be on the spot)? If not the problems you should have is exactly the same you're saying, smoke, rough idle and slow reving up. Check that, the head were off and its a strong possibility...

Good luck

The manual in this forum says the ECU needs to be programmed with the parameters of the injectors. Clip computer is needed for this.

new timing belt on , timing spot on , starts no problem , when pressing on throttle takes a couple of seconds to react , unpluging the MAF sensor response is better when reving giving off black smoke but no fault codes showing even unpluging camshaft sensor still no fault codes showing :banghead :cry

to add what alex says, although im not 100% I do recall reading in the manual that if the injectors are not programmed, revs are limited to xxxxrpm (I cannot remember) - this may not be correct though, as I say I'm not 100%

If your MAF is failing the fault code doesnt show immediatly. Do you have any chance to connect the car to an OBD machine?

How about the rough idle, its ok now?

i wouldnt say it was a rough idle i could only describe it as louder ! i may have to take it to Renault for their diagnostic machine but thats my last resort
