Re: New Dephaser and Cambelt - 1.6VVT
Thanks for the advice, got a quote from my trusted independent dealer for a new dephaser pulley ,new cambelt kit ,seals, tensioners .Total parts/labour VAT for £505, (parts approx £270) does that about right.

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
I have a 1.6 16v automatic, My engine starts and then cuts off after 10 secs. The dealer told me initially it was the MAP sensor, they cleaned the connection and it worked well for 3 months. Now it's not staying on at all. Can anyone tell me where I can buy one ?(dealer is £105)
Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
My clatterin noise and sometimes stalling started after service where the camblet was changed two moths ago. Today i went to renault service and they found no error codes or heard the clattering. The service man said that its prolly the vvt problem and that i don't have to repair it if it gives no real problems to the car.
So i am not getting the vvt repaired since it does not stall everytime when i start.

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
I have the same VVT dephaser problem on an 05 1.6VVT. It started off as just a bit of a rattle and due to the cost of having Renault replace it, I lived with it. Several months down the line, I'm getting sooty smoke from the exhaust on start up (and the rattle), and I have to rev the balls off of it so the piece of junk doesn't stall.
I've tried complaining to Renault 'customer service' but they don't want to know and stated "If it was an inherrant problem then it would have manifested itself during the warranty period". I pointed out that the car had only done 11 thousand miles and therefore was essentially less than a year old in terms of average mileage but they didn't give a cr@p.
So I've decided that I'm going to change the dephaser myself. Will let you know how I get on......
Any advice from anyone who has done this already would be greatfully appreciated too!

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
Hi all, we own a 55 plate megane, a month off being 4 years old, and the dephaser has been rattling terribly upon starting the car.. rang renault who asked us to take it to our local renault dealer for diagnosis at a cost of £57 pounds to ourselves... so as they can fully diagnose the problem, I explained that half the village I live in can hear the thing in the morning. My question is this, how hard can I push renault to help out with the cost. I can source the parts for under 200 and a timing kit is only 33 which I can sell on once I've used it, however having renault do it would give me some comeback if it goes tits up again.. Can anyone confirm where renault stands on the issue of the dephaser failure as although I have trawled the net I cannot seem to get a 100% positive answer, and of course renault wont tell me, the lady I spoke to at renault uk said she had not heard of many of these going... which I know is not the case... Any ideas as to which way I should pursue this would be gratly appreciated...
thanks..
thanks..

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
I think you will have to be persistant. It will help if the car has full service history (at renault) and you have owned the car from new and low mileage. if none of these are true in your case then you'll be lucky to get anywhere.
even if renault agree to pay for labour...you can still get it done cheaper independantly.

Good advice, I also suggest you register and post the problem on the official Renault UK site

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
Update on the dephaser problem we have with our 55 megane... We have owned the car for two years and had it serviced at our local (none renault) garage, 24500 on the clock. Took it today to our local renault dealer , sunwins at preston, for diagnosis at a cost of £57. They diagnosed the dephaser pulley and quoted a cost for repair of £660. They rang the lady at renault uk who is dealing with my case and renault have agreed to contribute half of the cost and waive the diagnosis fee leaving me with a total to pay of £330. Quite happy with that, can't grumble too much and judging at the response other people have had from renault regarding out of warranty dephasers feel It's not a bad deal... Hopefully It comes back giving the same mpg and performance as it has done for the last couple of years, (avg 41 to the gallon consistently). will let you know more when it's done..

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
Hi
got an 03 23K 1.6 VVT and I'm not sure if I'm in the Depahser Pulley Problem - I'm getting no noises on startup - I've seen it drop from idle once - but pulling away is a nightmare - Rev it quite high and careful clutch control to pull away relatively smoothly - Into 2nd gear and then on from there its fine - What I am surprised about is the economy - travelling round town is circa 24 mpg - My Merc 3.5 SLK is better than that...
So is this the the symptom of a Depahser Pulley or a TDC sensor ? What's people thoughts
Thanks
Pete

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
My megane-1.4 16v- when i first got it was reving to around 3000rpm when in neutral. It was also cutting out just after being turned on. It went to the renault dealer and they thought it may have been the alternater, they replaced it which worked for a wee while but it started again. They then said it was an oxygen sensor and they had to remap the ECU this has worked however on very cold days it sometimes cuts out but its not that often. Don't know if this helps. It was a the Renault dealer in East Lane, Paisley, it was ther for just over a week as they said they had not got a clue what it was- so they were just guessing !.

No, you are sane - ask the garage exactly what they did and in what order and why.

Re: Engine cutting out - 1.6VVT
I would like to ask a few questions. I have Mégane II K4M (1.6 16V VVT). I tried clean TDC sensor, because there was oil from cracked camshaft plug. I didn't have problem after. But I disconected TDC sensor (no remove, only plug) and start. My mystake. I connected plug back to sensor. Engine stalls ten second after start. MIL doesn't light. It takes after every start. I have to accelerate and keep engine speed to 1200rpm else engine stalls. It takes about 30 seconds. Then engine runs normally. Only low speed of engine (about 1200rpm) engine twitches. On accelerate to 1600rpm on idle engine oscilates from 800rpm to 1600rpm. I have to break with any gear to 750rpm. Engine runs normally after.
I disconected selenoid valve of dephaser and engine starts normally without problems (only MIL lights). I read diagnostics manual for dephaser and try by this manual connect selenoid valve of dephaser on battery throw switch. I started and pressed switch. Engine stalls (stops). In manual has been write, there is fault on TDC or camshaft sensor. I think TDC is right, because engine runs and starts without problems. I remove camshaft sensor and clean it. I tried measure resistance between pins. I measured 10kohm between signal pins (pins near cab). Engine starts and stalls after montage sensor back. I tried disconnect camshaft sensor and engine starts and runs normally without stalls or anything problems. I think there is camshaft sensor fault. Is my mind right? I read camshaft sensor is priciple to hall sensor. I think, it haven't any resistance. Cables are OK, their resistance is zero ohms. Where it could be any problem?
Thanks for read, sorry for my english. Thanks for reply.
