help how can i fix my handbrake

Postby b3owb » Thu Jun 10, 2010 8:27 pm

The button on my 06 megane dci handbrake will not return unless i pull it,thus hand brake does not rachet and lock just drops ,having to leave in gear when parked,Has anyone stripped the grip /button mechanism and repaired.or replaced complete unit ,if so how do you remove the plastic centre consol section between the handbrake and gear stick so consol can be lifted above handbrake to replace unit,
any advice would be appreciated this car is costing a fortune windows, brakes, air con wheel bearings etc etc etc....

I wrote a guide on this. Search for it.

Either replace the whole unit (as per my guide) with a scrap part, or repair the handle (others have described this in detail).
Silver 08 plate 5dr 1.5dci Dynamique 106 Tech Run (re-mapped)

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
