Meg 1.6 vvt 2003 floor lights

Hi, I've searched the FAQ , not spotted an answer .
My 5 door meg's floor lighting stays on when I'm driving (it's a distraction when night driving) The lighting goes off after locking/dead locking but if I try any of the doors to check if they're locked ,the floor lights come on for a timed period.
I have checked that the key card is well out of range and the doors are indeed locked

Correct Ray ,
The redundant ashtray was stopping the lid from closing properly. ( it requires some careful positioning ).
