Hi
I have a 2003 1.6 megane privilege. Last week the passenger window half came down as i was driving all on its own. Tried both the drivers and passenger window control but nothing. A friend recommended jiggling the window up and down and pressing the control up at the same time as it had more than likely come off of its rails. This worked and the window worked fine until today, when on returning to my car after work and unlocking the car the passenger window was completely down.
My father in law tried all sorts to get it working, ending up with the inside door trim completely off. In the end to get the window backup we had to use the turn on, turn off, remove the fuse, deadlock, open car, put fuse in, start car, turn off car, deadlock car to get it to move about an inch or so at a time. SO now i have my window shut (good thing considering the rain tonight) but the fuses removed to prevent it falling again.
I have read that this is a common fault on meganes, but does anyone know what it may be? My father-in-law thinks its the motor or the power to the motor thats the issue. WHilst i tend to agree, for the trick mentioned above to work the motor has to have some life in it right, otherwise it wouldnt be able to move the window up as part of this? Has anyone had this happen to them? if so what solved it? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated
Going to call my local renault specialist in the morning to book it in, but like to have as much info to hand as i can to help prevent getting ripped off
Thanks
Ian

Re: Electric Window Fault - Passenger window
Ian,
This problem seems to be endemic - it (and a variety of minor differences) have been reported usually more than once daily. Sadly, I don't personally know of any definitive solution. Most people seem to end up replacing the window regulator. Some have the wiring loom changed, and there is a minority that have water ingress into the doors with corrosion problems. All of this is probably inter-related - not least because of the complexity of the internal computer. There are images on here of mangled pulleys and cables and pretty much all sorts.
I wish I could help, but I just don't know. If you find out 'the answer' you will be a hero!

Re: Electric Window Fault - Passenger window
well i stopped into my local renault specialist this morning and he seems to be of the opinion that the motor and its computer unit need changing. he said its a pretty common fault. having read elsewhere that spraying the loom/wiring with WD40 can help, he said its worth a shot as a cheap solution to see if it makes a difference, but he did feel around and he said it didnt seem particularly damp or have obvious sign of water damage. im going to give it a go, as i am rpetty fed up with the megane now to be honest, i just want to get it working to sell and its not my problem anymore. bit of a crappy attitude i know, but im just fed up of these problems with renaults.
the guy said the part alone is £200 odd + vat, from what ive read that seems about right from what others have paid. can anyone confirm what theirs cost?
