Ok... So the random cutting out has stopped but... Odd grind
So the throttle housing was cleaned last week, running like an absolute dream! Now new problem... When starting te engine it kind of grinds, I can't think of any other way to describe it? It grinds on starting, then cuts out, but then starts pefectly? Also today while sitting in heavy traffic the service light and airbag light came on randomly? It's not due a service, was just serviced las week. Any help much appreciated!

Haha yes, 1.6 Vvt 2006 cc! Ok, I'll call the garage tomorrow and get it back in. Is that a big problem?

Dephaser, full stop.
It is replaced together with the belts, expensive job. This problem is related to bad design by Delphi, low quality oil, extended service intervals and driving in low revs. In future, only use MB229.3/MB229.5 oils (choose 0w30 for faster circulation), OEM filters. change them annually and avoid driving below 3000rpm (unless creeping slowly in traffic jam). I've posted a novel about dephasers into our Links section.

grinding is depahser, the airbag light will be loose wiring under the driving seat getting stretched and pulled out of it's connector. lots of other threads about this issue.
worringly there seems to be a number of 2006 cars that now seem to have developed the dephaser issue, hope this is not a trend.

Thanks guys. Luckily I bought it from a dealer instead of the cheaper option if a private sale. I've had it a week today and this is te 2nd time it's been in the garage! The airbag light hasn't done it since, it was just while I was sitting in traffic which was odd!
So greatful I bought the warranty offered to me! I called the garage ad he tried telling me it was the heat deflector, which I know it isn't!
Thanks again for all your help, got a feeling I might be a regular in here before long!
