Postby leeanderin » Fri Feb 05, 2010 3:17 pm

Just returned from the dealer (evans halshaw) to be told that my water ingress in my front floor storage compartments(megane 2) is caused by the drains under the Scuttle panel under the windscreen, they are asking £150 to clean them out. What is involved in cleaning them out as i dont have £150 to hand over to the do this work?

Sounds silly...but try Mr muscle sink unblocker....

Leave and apply a hot kettle of water to run through! :) Save you £150 quid anyway!!

What is involved?

...poking the drain opening with something which gets through the mesh of the scuttle panel cover.

They are probably planning to remove the wiper arms, then all the plastic, then do the poking and put everything back.

I love simple solutions! Coat hanger modified for purpose.

Any suggestions on best way to get all the water up out of the carpets as it makes puddles if you push on the carpets?

On a previous car, I used a wet vac and left a dehumidfier running took a while but was dry at the end of it.

That doesn't solve the cause of the problem.

I think that the de-humidifier is a good idea once the problem is solved. Given the right ambient temperatures I got nearly 500ml of water out overnight (different problem).

How many drain holes are there on the car? just the one that can be seen through the mesh in the scuttle or is there another hidden on the drivers side?

Does anybody have any photographs/diagrams of where these holes are? does the complete black plastic cover under the wipers need to come off?

I have posted a detailed discription on how to do this.

If you cant find it PM me.

It take little time and even less effort. £5 should cover it!
