Hi guys and girls,
Slight (well major) problem with my 2004 Megane 1.4.
It has unfortunately been stood for a couple of months and the battery died, (it was on it's way out, but standing still for 2 months + heavy snow/cold weather has killed it).
Brought and fitted a new battery today, electrics are all working, but it refuses to start, coming up with 'Electronic Fault', with STOP lit up.
Reading the manual and other bits and bobs from the internet, seems to me the Immobiliser has kicked in and needs an ECU recode/Key recode.
Is the conclusion I have come to correct? Has anyone else had this problem? How much do you think it would be to rectify? It looks like it is going to be an expensive fix, and if at all possible I want to avoid Renault (unless I am royally stuck and need an entire new set of keys!)
Any advice to this problem would be fantastic.
Cheers in advance
Jimbo

Re: Changed Battery - Refuses to start
i had the same problem in terms of electronic fault showing up, but changing the battery didnt cure it.
Turns out the fusebox had got wet and corroded, had to have it replaced!!
Does the steering unlock when you press the start button?

Jimbo,
Look here for clues.

I don't think any re-coding is required. Most likely, there is a network problem caused either by the cable or one of devices connected to it.

Cheers for replying chaps.
Problem solved. One of the wires for the negative point wasn't connected back on by my Uncle (fool!)
Thanks for the PDF Alex, will come in handy that for future reference. Looking at it now you were right about the network it seems, spot on.
Off for it's MOT next week (expired whilst stationary, as did it's tax), so fingers crossed it comes through that without any nasty surprises
Thanks again
