Renault didnt charge for the clutch they did it all under the Autoprotect warranty + it was the fourth time that they supposed to have fixed the squealing noise,so nine days later after car went into dealer fitted new water pump+coolant change, auxillary belt tensioner, cam+aux belt, clutch kit+bearing, clutch slave cylinder and a wash and hoover all under the warranty.......... :-)

Hi, I have had same problem for over a year now. Mine is more like a grating / grinding sound, but only for a few seconds. Also happens only when cold. Took it in and they did full service andsaid it was cam belt. this fixed the problem for two weeks. service light came on and toxic fuel indicator. took it back again and computer said it was crank shaft censor. had this replaced which sorted the service light, but not the starting noise from cold. lasted two months and had another crank shaft censor replaced as the first one was "faullty" - no luck! Now service light comes on but goes away after three days' ignore. starting noise is intermittent, but now need to rev engine at 3000 rpm to keep it from stalling when starting from cold. Usually takes 4 goes to pull away from cold now. No problem when warm. Anyone any ideas?

For you I would seriously question whether its the clutch as their / the computer's ability to diagnose problems seem to have disappeared leaving it to the dark arts of forums!

Sounds like Dephaser pulley my 2005 1.6vvt is on its third pulley now and had the same symptoms as yours.

Toxic fume light could be failing coils.....

Na dude, noice would only appear when the clutch is disengaged (Down) there would be room for movement. When engaged the clutch would be against the flywheel and locked in tight with no movement. Throw out bearing sounds about right to me!

sounds exactly like a car we have in at the moment and i fully agree that it could be the clutch plate.
If i start the car with only the brake there is no noise if i start with the clutch depressed the noise appears.
very greatful for the info
