right i have a problem. previously about 2 months ago i had my dephaser kit changed and a sensor changed. when the car went in the dash said 3000 miles till service. i got the car back and all it says nw is "oil level ok" "change oil soon" but no countdown.
The spanner just used to stay on and tonight it just started flashing repeatedly. Now does this mean the oil needs changing or do i need a service? and is it possible to bring back how far i have left till i need a service if it shouldnt be yet?
last service was done about a year ago with 19k on clock now it has 29k.
Car details 54 megane II 1.6 16v Dynamique
also have a small issue when idling and pulling off when idling feels like car wants to stall but also when pulling off unless i take it over 2k revs it like judders first then will pull of weather i pull off quick or slow.
if anyone can help with any of this that would be great.

Re: Flashing spanner
Dont know if you got this resolved mate. the flashing spanner is service due. They probably havent reset it properly. If you scroll through your trip computor it will show you how many miles until service unless it hasnt been reset then it will either be ------ or the option wont be there.
The check oil message. When you first start the car up and it says 'OIL LEVEL OK', press the trip button on the speedometor and it will show you the level. Check with the dipstick as well though cause mine looked ok but was nearly empty.
I had the similar issue as you with the car mot moving but accelorating. When i revved it hard a load of smoke came out the back and its worked since (2 days ago and fingers crossed). It only happened after I topped the Oil up so not sure if the 2 were related.....

Re: Flashing spanner
This is an interesting post. I had a similar situation with my 03 plate diesel. It used 2.5 litres of oil over 250 miles whilst towing a caravan. I got the 'change oil soon' message even after I topped it up. It kept drinking oil until I did a change (the oil was VERY black), and its not touched a drop since - the new oil (higher specification stuff from opieoils.co.uk) is still nice and thin.
However, while I was investigating the problem, I came across another issue which you can read all about here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1144
Around the ninth post is where all the action is. Could be that used engine oil is getting into the intake system causing the smoke. I don't know anything about the petrol models though...

Re: Flashing spanner
i tied pressing the button near the speedo and it said the oil is full. I popped by a garage and asked if they new why it did this and i purposly took it to the garage that fixed it as they new what they have played around with. all he did was sit in and hold the trip button near the speedo for about 10 seconds and it reset it all now it does not flash it doesnt say change oil.
i asked the guy if reseting that interfers with the service requirements of the time period between each service and he said no its just an electric thing :s.
so like i said it has no errors or nothing and says service in 18K. should he had done this?

Re: Flashing spanner
Yeah it looks like he hasnt reset it after he has serviced it. Meganes tend to throw up error messages which are nothing to do with the actual fault. Did you see if he was pressing any pedals whilst resetting the trip? But glad its sorted now. Have you had any further issues with the accelorating? Mine has not. But its in kwik fit tomorrow for a 'free' exhaust check. Whats betting i need a new one.....
Re: Flashing spanner
You've cured the symptom but not necessarily the problem. Lots of smoke from a petrol is bad.

03, 1.9dci-120, drop in oil level, a cloud of smoke, "mot moving but accelorating" -- it is something to be alarmed with! Mine does not require topping up between oil changes. Check the crankshaft ventilation system and hope it is not the turbo playing up.

Its in the garage on thursday. Im going to mention it then. Also it makes a loud 'gruff' when starting the engine. My luck it will be the most expensive fault ever!!!

AlexB,
Just out of interest, since I changed the oil and cleaned the crankcase system (as per my other post about the breather system), it hasn't used a drop of oil. I took off the intercooler a couple of weeks ago and inspected it. It had a bit of of a dry black coating inside, but no oil - not bad for a 6 year old car in my view. Cleaned it out with jizer anyway and washed and dried it. Put all back and so far running fine.
