Not sure if its in the right place, but thought i would show off my poorly megane. not sure how this forum works as only just joined so please be gentle(but honest) with me.
its a 1.9 Dci 2003 on a 03

We bought the car from salvage this week for £1350 it is really nice runs well although has an "injection fault" (any ideas) still runs fine. been rearended and has 120k on the clock. going to try and get all the work done before xmas inc cambelt. (anyone recomend anything else appart from service of course)

well sent it in to a friend for it to be checked over.and.....
it needs disks and pads on the front, pads on back, track rod end, glow plug relay, cvboot, abs sensor, tyre, and a boot (which i got in black for £100)


so all been well i think i will be keeping it. i have read lots about it and herd about all the problems. but go on any car forum and tell me what car doesnt.

Front discs, if not OEM, come not balanced. At least Mintex and EBC are. I balance them by putting thick wire (3mm galvanised garden fence wire) through the vents. One full loop -- five grams. The imbalance value can be measured on a tyre balancing machine.

Just a quick note to say that if it hasn't already been mentioned, you should check the alignment of the car with a jig or suitable equipment. I think there is a page in the links section regarding the dimensions.

"Dude", none of cheap garages do it. The best they can do is to order expensive OEM discs from the dealer, which are properly balanced. So, if one wants a better material, for example iron with copper content as EBC use, then balancing needs to be ordered separately.

I discussed these issues with my mechanic, and we took several new vented discs from different manufacturers and put them on the tyre machine, just for fun. Imbalance on different aftermarket discs was upto 20g. The discs from Renault were perfect.

Just wondered....whats the red l.e.d in the passenger foot well? As its hanging down at the moment and lights up red this goes off again when the car starts, its a renault thing or an after market thing??

that`s the led for the alarm unit,which you will find in the boot,behind the nearside inner arch liner/carpet thingy

iirc,the alarm is a cobra,but it`s fitted by renault so it`s a bit of both oem and aftermarket

i also found the led when i had to remove the nearside front carpets etc to deal with water ingress.

20g across the diameter? I learned something new again...

Yes, but the diameter of a disc is smaller than the diameter of the whole wheel. Therefore 20g disc imbalance probably translates into half of that for the wheel diameter. It is acceptable for town driving, but might be noticeable at high speeds.

Don't be surprised - it is not the manufacturing fault. Vented discs are heavy, so 10-20g imbalance is almost nothing percentage-wise. The imbalance is created by the ruff cast surfaces inside the vents. The balanced discs have visible machining areas or drillings or attached weights.
