Squeaky Dashboard

Postby FairyBurst » Mon Oct 19, 2009 10:41 am

Hi,

Firstly my apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section, I was not sure if this was meant to go hear or in the Ownership Problems section:

As the title suggests I am having an issue with my 07 Megane GT. I took it back to my dealer who said that this was not covered under any warranty so if I wanted anyone to look at the issue it would cost me :(

Does anyone have any suggestions on how best resolve this issue? - besides turning the radio up louder!

Many thanks in advance.

Can you identify what area the squeak is coming from?

There's a few on here that have used various forms of foam to cure squeaks and rattles with good effect.

As for not covered under warranty, it's good to know that you have a dealer that is about much use as a chocolate fireguard too. Wifeys brakes needed stripping down and cleaning to eradicate a squeal and she was told that this wasn't under warranty, on an 08 car. They quoted £80 plus VAT for them to do it. I told them to put the wheel back on and, once the wife got home I rang a mate with a garage and he did it the following Saturday for £25 all in and that was both back wheels whereas the Renault garage were only going to do one side :banghead they really don't deserve our business.

Hi,

I think the squeaks are coming from the drivers side dashboard area, perhaps even the hood over the console, typically it is one of those things that when you are driving and its squeaking its hard to pinpoint :(

Thanks,

I have the same issue, just got the car from my local Renault garage so I think it is covered under their 30 day warranty thing!

Seems to come from just above the cd player/ cd multichanger area, can be heard at lower speeds!

Going to take it back tomorrow to get it looked at!

Double sided adhesive foam and silicone grease. FairyBurst, remove the hood over the dash by pulling it towards the driver, then apply the mentioned materials as appropriate. Falkirk81, your best bet is silicone spray, if you don't want struggle with disassembly. A standard way to reduce squeaks temporarily is to put the heater on "hot" for a couple of minutes. Expect more squeaks when it gets cold...
