Starting trouble - Slight water leak

Postby DriverDeluxe » Mon Jun 29, 2009 2:30 pm

Hi i have a 2003 1.6 Megane.

I have been having intermittent starting trouble when hot. Goes away if i leave the car for a few minutes then start it up again and it is fine.
However today i noticed some water dripping under the boonet and onto the drive.

Any ideas?

Ta

Hi today it took me about 10 times to start after being out.

Also noticed the brake pedal seemed to have locked up but freed itself once the engine started.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

Just been out looking at in and as it has been left for half hour or so it started straight away.
Anyways i keps starting it and stopping it with the key still in and it was firing up perfectly.
Until i then took the key out and tried starting and it wouldn't.

I've been told it could be an immobilzer problem.

Please help!

Just to add.

Now it wont even start at all. Not even an attempt at firing up i am getting nothing.

I put the key in and press the ignition and all i get is nothing. the lights come on the dash it then attempts to start the lights on the dash and doors dim and it just cuts off.

I am very stressed now as need the car for work.

Further update.

Now the windows do not operate properly.

Normally you open them and they glide down. Now you have to keep pressing it to open if and close it if you know what i mean. It doesn't do it automatically.

Sounds like a flat or dying battery, the windows will have lost the one touch setting when the powers gone.

to reset windows close them, and keep hold of the buttons for 5 - 10 seconds they should then function as normal again.

-EDIT - plus if you have been constantly starting and stopping car without driving over the few hours you were posting the battery probably is very low now.

Update

Knackered starter motor according to AA. Does this sound right? He got it going but it was a struggle and said it was starter motor and as i got to the garage it didn't start again once i turned off the ignition after 4 mile drive.

In garage now. Waiting for a call with the cost.

Fingers crossed it isn't too much.

Car back up and running again.

Feels and drives like a new car and seems to be driving faster than before and pulls away a hell of a lot quicker.

Cost the best part of 200 notes for a new starter but well worth it.

Sorted!
